Enhance Student Advising with YouTube Playlists
During your virtual advising sessions, point students to UCEAP YouTube playlists to provide them a visual experience of study abroad. Showcase firsthand accounts of UCEAP from the top three winners of the Time of Your Life Video Contest. Walk them through sessions from the 2020 Study Abroad Fair, which include topics such as study abroad options by major, country, scholarships, and health and safety. The World Tour playlist offers regional videos for students exploring multiple countries. Videos from some partner universities highlight features of each campus. There's even playlists from all nine UC study abroad offices—resulting in over 100 videos to help students find a program that best fits their goals. The UCEAP YouTube channel can keep students engaged with planning their study abroad adventure when they, and the world, are ready.

Colleagues assumed various student and parent personas, allowing them to discuss predeparture from a different perspective.
Conversations resulted in strategies to better prepare students and their families for study abroad.
The next workshop will look at the themes from the initial workshop and determine prioritization. Stay tuned for an invitation to this important conversation.

Connect to UCEAP Data Dashboards
The Research team has launched the Research Intranet, a one-stop shop for all UCEAP research, data, and evaluation resources. The intranet houses the collection in Microsoft Teams. The General channel offers a dozen broad data resources for staff with more to come.
The reports include:
  • Headcount and FTE
  • Applications 2015-16 through 2020-21
  • Campus Snapshots
  • Promise Awards
Most UCEAP offices or units will also have a private channel, in which you can find resources specific to your unit or group. The initial roll-out included staff from the Systemwide Office. Study Center and campus staff will get access in the next few months.
If you have questions, please email research@uceap.universityofcalifornia.edu.

STAFF UPDATES

Bill Clabby
After three years of service as deputy chief global affairs officer for UC Irvine, Bill Clabby will retire in January.
Bill started his journey in international education as a UCEAP student in Bordeaux, France. This led to two years in rural Senegal as a Peace Corps volunteer, a year of teaching in Japan on the JET Programme, and computer lab director on Semester at Sea. Bill worked at UC San Diego for 22 years, five years at the International Society of Arboriculture in Texas, and five years at St. Edward’s University before heading to UC Irvine.
Bill and his wife will now have time to spend with his parents, his children, and grandchildren in four states. He’ll continue to contribute to various international organizations, such as the Gateway International Group, International Student Exchange Program, and the Center for Global Education.
Diane Lindsey
Diane Lindsey will depart from UCEAP effective January 15.
Diane will join the California Department of Public Health as their division chief for Maternal and Child Adolescent Health leading and directing over 140 state employees. This is a fabulous opportunity for Diane and allows her to return to the field of public health.
Diane’s contributions to UCEAP over almost five years have been significant, particularly her leadership in growing the summer physics programs into the powerhouse portfolio they’ve become today.
We will miss her collegiality and can-do spirit. Please congratulate Diane and wishing her all the best in her new position.
Lindsay Matteson
Lindsay Matteson's last day with UCEAP was December 23. Lindsay has been a great asset to the Region I team. While we are sad to see her go, we wish her well in her new endeavor with AmeriCorps NCCC. In her new role, Lindsay will serve as assistant program director for training. She’ll manage the training programs for service members to ensure successful completion of service projects as well as for their general professional development.
